Track Notes:
The events in this song are true. Just the names have changed (mostly because I never knew the names of most the subjects involved).

This is a solo track. I’m using the Buffet Crampon R13 clarinet and the piano is a Kurzweil PC88.

Lyrics:
I saw Phyllis just the other day
She was half-drunk as usual trying to walk down that street
She was carrying a pack of cigarettes upside down
And you know if you ever wanted to know where Phyllis was
You could just follow that trail of cigarettes down the sidewalk
Between her mumbling and fumbling and grumbling
She told us Bob had died last week in his sleep
But something told us that just wasn’t true
Because we had just seen Bob waiting in line trying to sell some blood
Bob always sells blood on Thursdays

Can’t you see there’s something wrong with all the people here?
Brain dead not knowing who they are
Can’t you tell there’s something wrong with all the people here?
Brain dead not knowing who they are

We watched as they took Norman away
He overdosed again on a mixture of heroin and children’s aspirin
And as the ambulance slowly crawled up that road
We saw it run right into some poor legless cat in a wheelchair
And this cop while he saw the whole affair
He actually gave the man who couldn’t walk a ticket for jaywalking
Hmmm? Imagine that
The cop got a call, got in his car and he sped away
He just left that guy sitting in the street
Hmmmm? Imagine that.

Can’t you see there’s something wrong with all the people here?
Brain dead not knowing who they are
Can’t you see there’s something wrong with all the people here?
Brain dead not knowing who they are

We caught Sally as she was heading home
She’s trying to support 5 kids playing bingo in the basement of the church
And later that day we ran into Joe
He was selling dime bags of oregano to a couple of school kids

We watch the sky turn to a vivid shade of red
And as the sun starts its descent behind the buildings
And just before the night owls start their migration to the clubs
We all enjoy a moment of peace.
